Thanks to everyone who joined us for our screening! We raised almost $800 to support the farm and met some new friends.
Thanks to Vox Populi Gallery for hosting us, to Shelley Rogers and What's Organic About Organic? for the amazing documentary, Yards Brewery for the beer, Popchips for the snacks, and Mary for drinks and supplies.
The films we showed:
"WEST PHILLY GROWN" is a short documentary by Clay Hereth, a graduate
of Drexel's film school. It captures a glimpse of the 2010 growing
season at the Mill Creek Farm, an educational urban farm located in
West Philadelphia. The farm was founded in 2005 by Johanna Rosen and
Jade Walker with the help of the Philadelphia Water Department and the
Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. The farm is dedicated to improving
local access to fresh produce, building a healthy community and
environment, and promoting a just and sustainable food system.

WHAT’S ORGANIC ABOUT “ORGANIC?” delves into the debates that arise when a
grassroots agricultural movement evolves into a booming international
market. As the film moves from farm fields to government meetings to
industry trade shows, we see the hidden costs of conventional agriculture.
We also see how our health, the health of our planet, and the agricultural
needs of our society are all intimately connected. The film compels us to
look forward, towards a new vision for our culture and encourages us to ask,
“How can we eat with an ecological consciousness?”
